Photos by Bernard Andre
The basics: The new Juniper Networks corporate campus in Sunnyvale, Calif., includes two 8-story, 318,000-square-foot office buildings—2A and 2B—that will house research and development, and laboratory spaces for the quickly growing Silicon Valley Internet company. The building façades combine an expansive curtain wall, punched windows within tile on thinshell precast, and strip windows. The project is Gold certified from the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design program.
The players: Architect, RMW Architects; general contractor, San Jose Construction; glass fabricator, Viracon; sun-control systems, Nysan; balanced entry door supplier, Ellison; porcelain tile supplier, SpecCeramics; cladding system supplier, Walters & Wolf Precast; glazing contractor/curtain-wall supplier, Walters & Wolf.
The glass and systems: The curtain wall is the Walters & Wolf All-Wall Curtain Wall; the cladding is Ceasar porcelain tile attached to thinshell precast. The project also features a high-span entry system, an aluminum-clad canopy system with glass infill, an aluminum-clad trellis, and eyebrow vertical aluminum fins. Two general glass types were specified: VE19-2, 1-inch insulating glass, with ¼-inch Crystal Gray outboard lite with VE-2M coating on the second surface, ½-inch airspace, and a ¼-inch clear inboard lite; and VRE 19-59, insulating glass with radiant low-E coating, and aluminum airfoils.
