Charles Kahle, vice president, coatings research and development, PPG Industries, Pittsburgh, will take on additional responsibility as chief technology officer. In his new role, Kahle reports to Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Charles Bunch. He joins the company’s Operating Committee, and works closely with the company’s business leadership and the board’s technology and environment committee. Continuing to be based at the coatings research center in Allison Park, Pa., he assumes functional responsibility for glass and chemicals research as well as global product development. Kahle joined PPG in 1987 as a research associate in coatings, worked in the electrodeposition and central research groups, and served as group leader for automotive parts and accessories coatings development. Subsequently, he held key technical leadership roles in the company’s chemicals and glass technology centers before becoming director, research, coatings and resins, in 2004, and vice president, coatings research and development, in 2007. He earned a doctorate in organic chemistry at the University of Illinois based in Urbana, Ill.
John Campbell joined Tubelite Inc. of Walker, Mich., as a product development engineer. He will expand architectural aluminum product offerings for the commercial glass and glazing industry, working in collaboration with manufacturing, sales, marketing and client services. Most recently, he served as engineering supervisor and project manager at PulverDryer USA Inc., Kalamazoo, Mich. He has 30 years of product development, design and engineering experience, and a bachelor's degree in business from Cornerstone University in Grand Rapids, Mich.
Brenda Mendl joined S.A. Bendheim Co., Passaic, N.J., as a sales account manager in the New York area working out of the company’s New York City showroom. She will manage architectural glass sales and customer relations with New York architects and designers.
Before Bendheim, she worked as store manager for Papyrus, New York, and in various other customer service positions with FAO Schwartz Inc. of New York, Men’s Warehouse headquartered in Houston, and Town Sports International, New York, among others. She has a bachelor’s degree from Texas A&M University, College Station, Texas.
Officials from PGT Industries, Venice Fla., appointed Bill Recio as international sales manager. He brings more than 20 years international experience. Before joining PGT, he had responsibility for sales and marketing at The Sherwin-Williams Co., Cleveland, with a key role in strategic planning and new business development. He holds a bachelor’s degree in marketing and economics from Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, La.
Activar Construction Products Group
The Activar Construction Products Group of Bloomington, Minn., welcomed Shannon Shafer as customer service manager. She will head the recently consolidated, nationwide customer service department in Minnesota that serves the JL Industries, Samson Products, Air Louvers, and Hiawatha divisions of ACPG. Shannon was service business manager for Johnson Controls Inc., Milwaukee.
