Dates set for 2008 International Master Fitter Competition
June 30, 2008
The 2008 International Master Fitter Competition will take place Oct. 21-25 during glasstec in Düsseldorf, Germany, announced officials of the International Automotive Glass Federation in a June 30 release.
The competition is open to master auto glass technicians around the world who have won preliminary national competitions that adhere to Master Fitter criteria. A series of organizations and countries have committed to sending installers to the event, including the National Glass Association, McLean, Va., which will send the winner of the 2008 American Master Installer Auto Glass Championship, Oct. 6-7, at GlassBuild America: the Glass, Window & Door Expo in Las Vegas. The deadline for other countries to apply for participation is Aug. 15, 2008, according to an InterAutoGlass release.
“[The technicians] will compete on the repair of a windshield damage and on the replacement of a side window, a rear window and a windshield,” said Pim de Ridder, managing director of InterAutoGlass, headquartered in The Netherlands, in the release. “Each participating country will also nominate a member of the jury, headed by Arne Hansen from Norway. I’m sure all participants are imbued with their crucial role in the safety of the driver and the vehicle passengers. Therefore quality and quality only is the device of our competition.
“We will be actively involved in this huge event as in the national Dutch and German competitions, also taking place during glasstec,” de Ridder said. For more information on the competition, visit www.interautoglass.org.
