Pittsburgh Glass Works announces restructuring activities
December 2, 2008
With the anticipated decline of North American automotive vehicle builds in 2009, the Pittsburgh Glass Works has announced that it is realigning its manufacturing footprint and making reductions in its salaried workforce. As part of the initiative, the company said that it will cease production at its Oshawa, Ontario, Canada glass fabrication facility in the first quarter 2009. Additionally, the company will reduce its salaried workforce by over 150 people in response to lower demand anticipated in 2009. The company further announced that two satellite assembly plants in Newark, Del., and Cambridge, Ontario, will be closed later in 2009, according to a Dec. 1 Market Watch report.
