LEED Green Building Standard Clears First Hurdle for Government-wide Use

The Green Building Advisory Committee recommended the General Services Administration use the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design standard as its primary means of measuring the overall efficiency of agency buildings, particularly in terms of energy and water. According to a FederalNewsRadio.com report, the committee made the recommendation after studying more than 160 tools and standards.

"The Green Building Advisory Committee has been looking at this for almost a year-and-a-half now, and they made a recommendation to GSA that ... the use of LEED was most conducive to meet the requirements of the Energy Independence and Security Act," said Kevin Kampschroer, director of the Office of Federal High-Performance Green Buildings at GSA, in the FederalNewsRadio.com report.
