In an April 28 letter to customers, Pilkington North America Inc. announced it would increase prices as follows:

  • 9 percent increase on clear float products, 1.8 millimeter through 12 mm thicknesses
  • 7 percent increase on clear float products, 15 mm and 19 mm thicknesses
  • 7 percent increase on all Pilkington Energy Advantage Low-e products
  • 9 percent increase on all Pilkington Texture Glass products
  • 6 percent increase – Pilkington Eclipse Advantage Low-e and Pilkington Solar-E products
  • 9 percent increase on all Tinted substrates
  • 6 percent increase – Pilkington Optiwhite low iron products
  • 3 percent increase – Pilkington Mirropane transparent mirror

These prices will be effective with all shipments as of June 2, 2014. In the letter, Pilkington officials attributed the increase to operating costs, saying, "Float finances, with current pricing, still do not adequately address the rising operating costs needed to sustain our business in the long term as evidenced by the cessation of float manufacturing operations at our Lathrop, Calif., facility."

Pilkington's price increase follows Guardian's April 17 increase and PPG's April 24 increase.
