The Toronto City Council adopted measures to increase glass balcony safety based on recommendations from the Planning and Growth Management Committee. The Nov. 29 decision comes several months after a series of glass balcony failures on Toronto high rises made headlines.

According to the City Council meeting minutes, the committee recommended an emergency amendment to the Ontario Building Code that better addresses glass balcony safety concerns. The committee also recommended an update for trade practices and training in the use of balcony glass panels, and a review of safety standards.
