Pilkington Restarts Float Line at German Plant

Pilkington restarted an updated float glass line at its facility in Gladbeck, Germany. The line has been completely renovated, including technological improvements, say officials, and added 530 jobs to the facility.

NSG Group invested over $33 million in the modernization project. The line, which produces flat glass primarily for the automotive industry, had been under cold repair since April.

Updating the furnace can improve the energy efficiency of the plant, reduce gas consumption and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 20 percent, say officials. The company also modernized the emission control systems and dust filters in the plant and added new cutting tables and cutting technology for stacking de-cut glass plates at the cold end of the float line.

Production on the line will start in August, when the furnace has finished heating.
