Great Glazing: MetroNational Treehouse

The basics: MetroNational’s two-story, 14,700-square-foot Treehouse in Houston, Texas, exemplifies sustainable and biophilic design practices. The state-of-the art building creates a collaborative and innovative work environment with ample access to the outdoor environment, while featuring the upmost in green building technologies and processes. The project is on track to earn LEED Platinum Certification, thanks in part to a rooftop garden with solar panels, rainwater collection and a wind turbine, and thanks to high-performance glass combined with automatic daylighting controls.

The players: Architect, Studio RED Architects; general contractor, Anslow Bryant Construction; glazing contractor, Haley-Greer Inc.; glass fabricator, Viracon

The glass and systems: The main façade glass features green-tinted insulating glass with a low-emissivity coating and a custom silk screen Vine print. The project also features a wrap-around balcony with operable glass garage doors and sliding doors.
