ABI Rebounds in October

Architecture firms experienced a modest rise in the design services provided in October, according to the Architectural Billings Index. The index, compiled by the American Institute of Architects, registered at 51.7 for October, up from 49.1 in September. Though the new design contracts index dipped slightly from 52.9 to October’s 52.8, the new projects inquiry index gained from September’s 59.0, increasing to 60.2.

“As we enter the fourth quarter, there is enough design activity occurring that construction conditions should remain healthy moving through 2018,” says Kermit Baker, AIA chief economist, Hon. AIA, PhD. “Extended strength in inquiries and new design contracts, along with balanced growth across the major building sectors signals further gains throughout the construction industry.”
