After a strong start in January, business conditions eased at architecture firms in February, according to the American Institute of Architects. With a national Architectural Billings Index score of 50.3, down from January’s 55.3, firms did not experience significant growth, although scores for new design contracts and inquiries do suggest a continued upward trajectory. Analysts predict an overall improvement in billings in the next few months, based on these readings.

The South again led regional growth for the third month, while the Northeast, Midwest and West posted marginal billings increases. Commercial/industrial firms lead market sectors, posted the highest score, with 53.9.
