The Architectural Glass and Metal Technician Certification Program gained the American National Standards Institute accreditation to the ISO/IEC 17024:2012 standard. ANSI is an internationally recognized leader in providing third-party accreditation services.

This achievement comes after a rigorous assessment process where the AGMT program and AMS Inc.—the program’s administrator and certification body—were evaluated in accordance with the ISO/IEC 17024:2012 standard, an international standard containing requirements for bodies operating personnel certification programs.

The requirements found in that standard help ensure AMS and the AGMT Program operate at a higher standard in the most critical areas of a personnel certification program: from verifying examination staff are highly trained and competent, to ensuring equal treatment of all candidates to provide for an open and transparent path to certification. Requirements also stipulate that the program’s exam is reliable, valid and fair, which for AGMT included beta testing, psychometric analysis and countless hours from industry experts across North America, say company officials.

“This Accreditation is really a recognition the AGMT Program has in place the right people, tools and processes to ensure a fair and valid certification process for each and every candidate …there’s no better way to say that than to have an independent third-party organization like ANSI witness the program in operation and attest to that fact through accreditation,” says Terry Schaefer, AMS’s quality assurance manager.

Stephanie Staub of the Architectural Glass Institute says that “having ANSI accreditation gives end-users of AGMT Certification the confidence that it is truly an industry certification.” This is because the AGMT Certification Program has been designed from the beginning to meet ANSI and ISO/IEC 17024 requirements by ensuring the appropriate subject matter experts were involved not only in the program’s content creation, but at every milestone along the way, assuring the program had real-world application, say officials.

ANSI’s Accreditation also means that AMS and AGMT will undergo an annual assessment, including witnessing of real-world exams, to maintain its accredited status.
