Billings Growth Remains Modest at Architecture Firms in May

Billings growth at architectural firms was flat in May, according to the Architectural Billings Index score, compiled by the American Institute of Architects. The index registered soft billings for the last four months, the longest sustained stretch since 2012, according to analysts. Scores for the value of new design contracts and inquiries into new projects remained positive, but also showed slower growth.

By region, Northeastern firms saw billings decrease for the fourth month in a row. Western firms reported flat growth, while Midwestern and Southern firms reported billings growth. Firms specializing in the commercial/industrial market experienced notable growth.
