Commercial Starts Increase in November; Overall Nonresidential Starts Fall

Nonresidential building starts as a whole fell 15 percent to $279.9 billion in November, according to Dodge Data & Analytics, although commercial starts rose 14 percent. Dodge analysts attribute the increase to a few large projects including the Manchester Pacific Gateway complex in San Diego. Hotel construction saw a 22 percent increase, and store construction starts rose 26 percent, while office building declined 2 percent.
