Bill de Blasio, mayor of New York City, announced that he will introduce legislation to limit the use of glass and steel used in building. “We are going to introduce legislation to ban the glass and steel skyscrapers that have contributed so much to global warming,” he said during a press conference that launched his Green New Deal initiative. “They have no place in our city or on our Earth anymore.

Despite de Blasio’s initial announcement, the mayor’s plan would not be an outright ban on glass and steel, but would require developers to meet new energy code requirements in order to be approved for a building permit.
