UK glass manufacturer Nicholls and Clarke Glass has been fined more than £11,000 (about $18,000) after a Dunstable man's arm was cut to the bone when a glass lite shattered in his hand. According to a July 22 Dunstable Today report, the man picked up a large glass lite that cracked and shattered without warning. One of the shards lacerated his right forearm above his wrist guard, severing the artery, muscle and nerves.

An investigation into the incident found the protective equipment Nicholls and Clarke provided for its employees was inadequate and insufficient, according to the Dunstable Today report.
