US Supreme Court Will Not Hear Metal Tariff Appeal

The U.S. Supreme Court passed on an appeal brought by the American Institute for International Steel regarding the Trump Administration’s 25 percent steel tariffs. The group, which represents importers of steel and companies that use imported steel, brought its lawsuit in June 2018, claiming that the legal provision that allowed President Trump to apply tariffs based on national security concerns, Section 232 of the 1962 Trade Expansion Act, gives too much discretion to the president and not enough to Congress.
