Tempco Glass Hosts Educational Event, Factory Tour with Vitro Glass

Architects Plant Tour
Tempco President Johnson Chen (third from left) led the recent factory tour for architects and façade professionals. Noise-cancelling headsets allowed Chen to describe every operation for attendees.

Tempco Glass Fabrication opened its doors to area architects, specifiers and building envelope specialists for tours of its 50,000-square-foot facility in Queens, New York. Several dozen design and construction professionals spent time learning about glass fabrication and viewing Tempco’s operations firsthand. Tempco has over a decade of experience in glass tempering, laminating, insulating, cutting, packaging, shipping and other glass-processing functions.

The educational event was co-hosted by Vitro Architectural Glass. During the visit Vitro provided the guests with two of its AIA continuing education courses—Glass Production, Processing and Performance, and the Live Fabricator Tour. Attending architects received continuing education credits for participating.

Many of the guests in attendance were members of the International Institute of Building Envelope Consultants. Tempco senior management is a strong supporter of IIBEC and its mission to advance the profession of building envelope specialists through education, certification and advocacy. Founded in 1983, IIBEC has over 3,600 members and chapters around the globe.

What Tempco and Vitro say

“Tempco’s objective with this educational factory tour was to bridge the gap and eliminate any disconnects for design and construction professionals between what’s specified and what finished glass products are fabricated,” says Tempco President Johnson Chen. “I feel our goal of creating better understanding for building façade professionals was achieved with this informative and enlightening day of presentations followed by a tour of our operations to see glass processing in action.”
