Gamco President Honored for Leadership
Gamco Corp. president Lelina Chang was recently honored as one of the “Power Women in Queens.” The annual award, created 30 years ago by Schneps Media, recognizes the extraordinary contributions these women have made to their businesses and their communities in the New York City Borough of Queens. Queens is home to 2.3 million residents and 50,000 businesses.
“To be among so many leaders in the fields of construction, medicine, aviation, social work, and other services is really humbling,” says Lelina Chang, president of Gamco. “Gamco has been a beacon of opportunity not just for my own family, but for the many amazing employees that have helped grow this small business. I am excited to see what our team will accomplish in the coming years as we continue to grow and contribute to Queens.”
The 55 “Power Women of Queens” honorees were celebrated at an evening gala on Thursday, Feb. 29 at the iconic Terrace on the Park venue in Queens. Over 550 guests attended the event, including Queens Borough President Donovan Richards, New York State Senator Joseph Addabbo, Jr., and New York State Assembly Member David Weprin. Lelina Chang was one of only two honorees representing manufacturing companies.
Lelina Chang is the second generation leader of this manufacturing company co-founded by her parents John Chang and Beatrice Chew in 1986. She grew up seeing all aspects of the company and took the helm in 2021. Chang directs the entire operation of Gamco Corp., from sales through production, for over 60 employees. With her executive team, she leads strategic planning to chart new initiatives to maintain and enhance Gamco’s industry leadership position.
Her achievements
Chang has achieved many significant improvements in company operations since taking the lead. She successfully expanded the company’s network of material suppliers to better manage supply chain challenges. To meet evolving stringent energy codes, Chang expanded Gamco’s engineering team and invested in product performance testing simulation software, speeding new products to market. She developed an intensive on-board training course for new sales engineers, ensuring new hires are integrated into the operation effectively and productively in mere weeks.
Chang engages Gamco with the local community through donations of resources and support for many grassroots initiatives. Gamco is particularly proud of its sponsorship of a portion of the Van Wyck Expressway in Queens as part of the NYC Department of Transportation highway cleanup initiative.
“My passion for learning and helping our community continues to grow,” says Chang. “I have many plans for the future to continue our outreach efforts in Queens.”
