FINEO by AGC First Vacuum Insulating Glass to Receive Special Permit in Germany

At the beginning of January 2025, the German Institute for Building Technology issued the general construction technique permit for FINEO by AGC vacuum insulating glass. This allows FINEO by AGC to be used for linear supported vertical glazing in construction projects in Germany without the need of a project-specific permit. It thereby simplifies and accelerates the approval processes for glass façade projects using FINEO by AGC vacuum-insulating glass.

Benefits and significance of this permit

In Germany, the design of linear glazing is governed by DIN 18008-2, which does not include any regulations for the relatively new technology of vacuum insulating glazing. In response, the DiBt issued a general type approval for the FINEO by AGC product range. An aBG is a document that provides detailed regulations on various aspects of planning, dimensioning, execution, operation and maintenance. It serves as a supplementary guideline to national or European regulations, such as a European Technical Assessment.

As a European Technical Assessment, based on a EAD, is available for FINEO by AGC vacuum glass, the installation of FINEO by AGC vacuum glass in linear glazing was approved without the need for an additional general building approval.

By the end of 2024, AGC Glass Europe became the first and only European manufacturer of vacuum insulation glass to have obtained CE marking for FINEO by AGC.

“The CE marking simplifies the construction process for planners, architects and builders by confirming compliance with European safety, health and environmental protection standards,” says Dr Louis Dellieu, Head of Product Management for FINEO by AGC.
