Skyline Releases 2025 Sustainability Commitment

Skyline announced the release of its detailed 2025 Sustainability Commitment document and webpage.

Four decades of domestic manufacturing

Since its founding in 1983, Skyline has operated exclusively from its facilities based in Chicago’s city limits. Its strict focus on domestic production approach minimizes shipping emissions, supports stringent quality control, and local labor.

Ethical material sourcing

Skyline prioritizes the use of non-toxic, locally sourced materials in its production. This includes paint that is locally made and water based, a proprietary mechanical etching technique that utilizes recycled aluminum oxide, and use of EVA interlayers for laminated glass, as opposed to the less expensive and less reliable PVB alternative.

Certifications and contributions

Skyline's environmental certifications include Intertek Clean Air GOLD, multiple Health Product Declarations (HPDs), and Cradle to Cradle certification for primary glass substrate via Vitro Glass. Skyline’s products also contribute to various LEED credits.

Bird-friendly initiatives

The company offers bird-friendly glass solutions through its Eco-Etch process applied to surface one of prefabricated IGUs. This process has been tested to significantly reduce bird strikes, with threat factors as low as 15, well below the American Bird Conservancy's threshold of 30.

Retrofit ready

Skyline Film Studio’s PVC-free polyester film is the environmentally friendly alternative to vinyl glass films. Film Studio features many of Skyline’s most popular patterns, including the new Matrix Collection, designed in collaboration with Gensler. Glass film integrates seamlessly with existing glass, supporting evolving architectural needs.
