AGC Flat Glass Italia officially inaugurated its newly refurbished float line in Cuneo. The opening ceremony was attended by Takuya Shimamura, AGC Group president and CEO, and Philippe Bastien, regional president, building and industrial glass Europe.
“Increased capacity, extended range of products, greater energy efficiency and better environmental performance turn this refurbishment into a rebirth for Cuneo’s furnace,” says Bastien. “For the whole plant, that importantly means restored competitiveness on the way to long term sustainability.”
After a cold repair process of three months and an investment of around $29 million, the newly restarted float line is now equipped with technologies that will enhance productivity and environmental impact in addition to improving the performance of the existing product ranges produced in Cuneo, say company officials.
According to AGC, the upgraded float line was designed to increase the plant capacity, as well as reduce energy consumption by 25 percent, which includes a reduction in atmospheric emissions, with 50 percent less CO, 14 percent less CO2 and 30 percent less NOx.
The Cuneo site manufactures a range of products in thicknesses from 3 to 25 millimeters. Besides clear float, the site now also produces the renewed Planibel Linea Azzurra range, a float glass manufactured only at the Cuneo plant.
