Construction gained 27,000 jobs in November, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, though the sector is still 279,000 jobs below its February, pre-pandemic level.
Overall, total nonfarm payroll employment rose by 245,000 in November, and the unemployment rate decreased to 6.7 percent. The Bureau says these movements indicate a resumption of economic activity, which has of course been impacted by COVID-19. Again, the indicators remain lower than early 2020 levels. Unemployment remains 3.2 percent higher than it was in February. Nonfarm employment was below its February level by 9.8 million, or 6.5 percent.
