Douglas Alan Sampsel died suddenly after a two-week stay in the hospital on the night of April 18. A celebration of his life will be held once it is safe for his loved ones to all be together.
Sampsel was born on July 18, 1943, in Toledo, Ohio. He began his long and well-loved career in the glass industry at Libbey Owens Ford in Toledo in 1968. Shortly thereafter, Sampsel and his family moved to Laurinburg, North Carolina, where he continued his career with LOF.
In 1982 he relocated his family to Atlanta where he later purchased Tempered Glass Inc. with a trusted business partner. Tempered Glass Inc. eventually became part of United Glass Corp., which then became part of Trulite Glass and Aluminum Solutions. Sampsel continued to work and thrive in his career up until his death. He became an icon in the glass industry after more than 50 years of incredible work ethic and long-lasting working relationships. As part of his career, he also served as the president of GANA.
He is survived by his wife Linda, their children and grandchildren.
