George Stathopoulos, former owner and chairman of the board of Ajay Glass, passed away at age 85, according to an obituary published in the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle. Today the company is run by the second generation of the family, including Steve Stathopoulos, president and chief operating officer; Dean Stathopoulos, executive vice president; and Jim Stathopoulos, CEO, who is also a board member at the National Glass Association.
Stathopoulos was born in 1935 in Drosopigi, Florina, in Greece. He emigrated to the U.S. in 1961 and learned the glazing trade first working at Mac's Glass in Rochester, New York, and finally working at Ajay Glass. From that start, he proceeded to buy out the company and become the majority owner of Ajay Glass Co.
