JW Marriot Nashville Part II: High-End Hotel Features High-performance Glass Courtesy of Viracon
The JW Marriott Nashville, which hosted the 24th annual Building Envelope Contractors Conference, boasts a glass-clad exterior courtesy of the high-performance glass supplied by Viracon. In total, the company provided 5,000 insulating glass units, meeting a schedule of one floor per week until completion.
The supplier had to meet a variety of design goals, say company officials, including privacy for the 533 rooms housed in the building’s tower. To achieve this goal, Viracon supplied VRE1-38 radiant low-emissivity glass with 44 percent exterior reflectance and 0.23 Solar Heat Gain Coefficient. By contrast, the structure’s podium glass features Viracon’s VE1-2M with 70 percent Visible Light Transmission, and 11 percent exterior reflectance, to fulfill the architect’s desire for high visibility at the building’s street level.
