Officials from the NSG Group announced the float glass furnace at the Ottawa, Illinois, will undergo a cold repair, with production expected to resume in December 2017, according to a May 12 NSG release.
The repair was previously planned for 2020. However, officials shifted the timeframe after a tornado in March damaged parts of the building where the furnace is located. The furnace itself was intact and has been kept on hot hold.
“After considering options, it was determined that expediting the cold repair in parallel with the repair of the storm damages was the best approach,” officials said in the release.
During the repair, products will be shipped from the inventory at Ottawa or from other NSG Group plants.
