Glass and metal combine to create a three-dimensional curtain wall of interlocking triangles on the 801 Lincoln Road building in Miami. The $15-million renovation of the location, a retail and dining destination in the heart of Terranova, was designed by Shulman+Associates, with glass fabricated by Viracon. The new Sustainable Energy and Environmental Engineering Building at Simon Fraser University features an arresting exterior comprising energy-efficient precast concrete and reflective glazing, the latter supplied by Vitrum Glass Group. Designed to mimic electronic circuit boards, the façade posed a challenge to Vitrum’s team, as each individual glazing unit on the circuit board facade was different from the next. The project also required the team to fabricate a large amount of multi-bend spacer bars, which prompted the company to develop its own methodology to create precision multi-bend spacer bar templates and then work with many crafts people offline to ensure quality was maintained while also ensuring delivery could be met. Revery Architecture completed the design. The general contractor was Bird Construction. Glastech Glazing Contractors was the contract glazier. The interior of the new CN Tower’s LookOut Level overlooking Lake Ontario boasts a modern glass aesthetic, thanks to glass fabricated and digitally printed by AGNORA. The company supplied a 2 3/8-inch-thick walkable glass floor, laminated with five layers of glass using SentryGlas interlayers. Interior walls are composed of 150 unique, digitally-printed monolithic panels. Alignment was key, since all panels depict a unique image, say company officials, and tight timelines required proprietary modifications to the digital printer to expedite the process. Cumulus Architects Inc. was the project designer, and mackaywong designed the glass graphics. The glazing contractor was Redspire Architectural Glass Inc. Passengers in the United Airlines Terminal at Los Angeles International Airport will be able to navigate more clearly, thanks to back-painted glass supplied by Skyline Design. Commissioned by the architect Krueck + Sexton, the company produced glass to help establish a clear and intuitive direct line of sight from the airport entrance through the security checkpoint and into the terminal’s gates. The company fabricated eco-etch and metallic Vitracolor back-painted glass. These decorative glasses are particularly suited to the airport application, says Mark Toth, sales director, as pattern and color produce appropriate and desired levels of transparency for intuitive wayfinding, balanced with the privacy necessary for security.
